The Standard Procedure For Kick Starting A Dirt Bikes Is:
- Turn the gas valve/petcock on.
- Press/turn on the ignition/key.
- Turn on the choke (carbureted bikes)
- Get on your dirt bike.
- Don’t touch the throttle yet.
- Slowly kick the starter over to make sure the engine spins freely and to get it to TDC (more on this later)

How do you manually start a dirt bike?
Push down hard on the starter. Plant your right foot on the pedal and push it down firmly to start your engine. The engine should start rolling over once your pedal is fully pressed down. If your bike doesn’t start right away or if you’re cold-starting it, try using the kick starter 3 or 4 more times to get it running.
How do you start a 2 stroke flooded dirt bike?
THE BUMP START Get a buddy (or two) to push the bike to terminal velocity. Then, pull in the clutch, shift the bike to second gear (third on a big bore) and pop the clutch. Once the bike starts to churn over, keep it moving until you can clean the flooded gas out. Ride it around for a few minutes to clean up the plug.
How many kicks should it take to start a dirt bike?
Takes 5 to 10 kicks.
Why do I have to push start my dirt bike?
What mechanical factors would result in either a two-stroke or four-stroke only starting when it is bump started? In either case, the reason the engine is able to start when it is push started is because it is able to build more compression than it otherwise could when it is kicked or the electric starter is engaged.
Why is my dirt bike harder to cold?
Carburetor has incorrect fuel/air mixture. Most motorcycles that struggle in colder weather or not fuel injected but use a carburetor instead. The intake manifold divides the mixture among the intake valves, and then it finally enters the cylinder and is ignited. Cold air is much denser than warm air.
Why won’t my bike start after I wash it?
The main reasons why your motorcycle is not starting after washing are – water has entered the electrical components of the ignition system; or into the engine through filters; or has come in contact with other electrical components like battery terminals; or your starter system is wet.
How do you tell if a dirt bike is flooded?
You know it’s flooded when it very hard to kick over. To clear it hold the throttle wide open and slowly kick around ten times. More than likely you will get a backfire then you can start the bike with the hot start pulled in.
Why does my 2 stroke keep flooding?
Two-stroke engines are small internal combustion engines that are most commonly found on lawnmowers, chainsaws and weed whackers. The engine may flood because of overpriming or because the choke has been left open too far, causing an excess amount of fuel to reach the combustion chamber.
Why is my 2 stroke backfiring and not starting?
If your two-stroke is not starting or else backfiring a lot when it does, this could mean that your fuel pump is clogged or damaged. The fuel pump helps to keep the correct ratio of fuel and air in the engine. When there is too much air being pumped into the system, this can also cause a two-stroke engine to backfire.
